Woodford is now in its third year of a partnership with Masterman School, hosting Middle and High School student field trips this past fall and in May, welcoming Masterman senior Sophia Brunelli to complete her Senior Project with us. Sophia developed a bibliography on indentured servitude in the 18th century and also dove into the world of history museums more broadly. She assisted with Family Fun Day at the American Philosophical Society, organized files in Woodford's archive, worked with primary documents at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, and learned about museum studies topics from governance, registration and collection management, to libraries, archives, and giving tours.
Sophia shared about her experience: "Each [mentor] took time out of their daily routines to teach me all about Woodford Mansion's history. I am beyond grateful they took my original interest in indentured servitude and created an entire project out of thin air for me to complete for my community service hours. This was such a wonderful experience."
Woodford looks forward to another season of field trips this fall and offering more programs for students looking to learn about museums.
